I did orchard work over the summer when I was studying as a student in New Zealand. Paid reasonable money and was nice to work outdoors. Hawkes Bay and Nelson are probably the best areas.

An English student of mine is now immigrating to NZ with her partner, it has been a struggle however. I think the "work and holiday" visa is the thing for you Very Happy You can then see what options are available once you are here.
